Group Vet List Items

Vet list command abbreviations often include custom items that capture a set of specific data points relevant to the vet list. A command abbreviation for this custom item is VITEM. When the main vet list command is executed, the system sees the custom item within it and includes the defined items in the report.

An abbreviation for items embedded in a vet list command looks like this:

VETLIST VITEM VETC FOR VLCON BY PEN\2CEU

So, what's in the VITEM abbreviation? It depends on how it's defined. A command abbreviation for items—like all DairyComp commands—is defined using the ALTER\3 command. In this case, our VITEM command might contain the following:

ID DIM DCC GDSB RPRO REM TBRD BS SIR3 SIR2

TIP: In the above example, all the items configured for this VITEM abbreviation will be part of our main vet list command if VITEM is included in it. Now we don't have to enter ID, DIM, DCC, and so forth as part of our vet list command!

Keep in mind that you can have more than one custom vet list abbreviation configured for your system. This is handy when you want different types of items quickly available to add to vet lists. You can even embed an item's abbreviation in another item's abbreviation, as in:

VITEM2=VITEM WMLK1 DSLH ID
